The Shalimar carpet is woven from a blend of choice international wools, at approximately 80 KPSI. The wool is hand-spun in the traditional manner, to impart subtle variations in color, thus contributing to a rich tonal bouquet. The foundation is made of a fine-count cotton yarn for stability and durability. Each rug is washed and thoroughly sun-dried. The designs and colors are calculated to blend easily with a wide variety of interior ‘looks’. The feeling is elegant and playful, with over-all designs and a lot of open spaces. Weavers often work from memory rather than strictly following a pattern, which adds spontaneity and originality to each rug. High-fashion colors are used, allowing Designers freedom and flexibility in blending with modern color palettes. Currently much in vogue are earth tones, with a dash of black, terra cotta or indigo.
